Vashisht Temple in Manali is dedicated to Maharishi Vashisht who is famous among the Seven Saprtrishis. The Temple is known for its spiritual significance, natural beauty, and unique attractions. This is one of the temples renowned for the hot water springs next to it which are believed to have therapeutic and medicinal properties. This place is surrounded by calm and spiritual surroundings and the temple has great religious and historical significance. The Temple has deep roots in Hindu mythology. It is believed to have been built over 4,000 years ago and is named after Sage Vashisht, the Kula guru of Lord Rama in the village Vashisht across the River Beas. It is among the most famous sightseeing as well as the Best Tourist Place in Manali.
The village of Vashisht was named after Rishi Vashisht who was one of the seven sages of Hindu. According to the legend, Rishi Vashisht was sad after finding out that his children had been killed by Vishwamitra. He was so sad that he attempted to end his life by jumping into a river but was saved by the river instead. He then started a new life in the village here. The river that took the Sage to the village was named Vipasha, meaning freedom from bondage. The Vipasha River is now known as the Beas River.
Inside the temple, there is a black stone image of the Rishi wearing a dhoti. The Vashist temple is decorated with excellent and beautiful carvings on wood with the traditional interiors which are ornamented with antique paintings and figures.
Reaching here is very convenient due to its proximity to Manali. As it is just 3 km from the Manali bus stand, you can hire a taxi, auto-rickshaw or even walk down the beautiful trail to the temple. If you are coming from some other city by air, the nearest airport to reach Manali is Kullu Manali Airport which is 50 km away. From there you can get taxis to Manali and then to Vashisht village. If you are coming by train, the nearest railway station to Manali is Joginder Nagar which is 162 km away after which you can take a cab to Manali. If you are visiting from the capital city then you can find frequent overnight Bus from Delhi to Manali, which ensures you travel conveniently.
