From May to August, the summer season is considered the best time to visit Rohtang Pass because of the moderate temperature which is perfect to escape from the hot waves of summer from across the country. It is a special permit is required for the Rohtang Pass for which the fee is ₹500 per vehicle with additional congestion charges. To get a permit, you need to fill in vehicle details on the official Rohtang Permit Portal and upload scanned documents such as a government-issued ID card, RC, and PUC. After payment of the required fees, you can get a digital permit. There are two types of permits - one for travelling up to the Rohtang Pass, and the other for travelling beyond it. You can apply online for the permit on the Himachal tourism website which is valid for 24 hours. While applying you will need a few documents such as Identity proof, a pollution check certificate for your vehicle, and your vehicle registration documents. There are no other entry charges than the permit price and congestion or parking charge.
