Why is Jwala Devi Temple famous?

The Jwala Devi Temple, also famous as Jagarwalo ki Kuldevi, is believed to be one of the 51 Shakti Peeths of Goddess Sati. According to Hindu mythology, when Mata Sati sacrificed herself in the Yajna, Lord Vishnu cut her body into pieces and all her parts fell at various locations, Jwala Devi is said to be the place where her tongue fell. Unlike other temples, there is no idol in Jwala Devi Temple but the goddess manifests herself as a set of eternal flames that emerge from the rock. These flames have been burning continuously for centuries which makes this temple a significant pilgrimage site. Many rulers, including Maharaja Ranjit Singh, contributed to the temple’s construction and upkeep.
